I’ve had a bit of a revelation lately, folks. I’ve been on the fence about Victor Osimhen for a while. I’ll admit, I still see some flaws and have my reservations about him.
But when it comes to Chelsea’s playing style, Osimhen should definitely be our main target for a striker come summer. I’m not throwing this out there without serious thought.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m a big fan of Viktor Gyokeres and I have high hopes for Liam Delap as well. Honestly, I wouldn’t be upset if we ended up signing either of those guys.
However, when you consider Chelsea’s dynamics under Enzo Maresca, especially with the wide crosses coming in, Osimhen seems like the ideal choice to be in the box.
We need a striker who thrives in the box, someone to target those crosses. Osimhen fits that need perfectly. We’re on the hunt for a strong, prolific scorer who can physically dominate up front, and Osimhen is exactly that.
When you break it down to what Chelsea needs, Osimhen checks all the boxes. Plus, he brings a winning mentality and a wealth of experience from his time at the international level and in the Champions League.
Now, don’t get me wrong, Delap impresses with his ability to handle long balls and is only getting better with header goals, having recently outmuscled Tosin Adarabioyo.
Gyokeres, on the other hand, can’t match the aerial prowess that Osimhen or even Delap possess. Delap’s physical presence sets him apart too.
Considering our strategy of flooding the box with crosses, Osimhen is the perfect candidate to tackle those low-block defenses.
But can Chelsea actually go for him again? They nearly secured him last summer, coming close enough to know about his wage expectations. The deal fell through due to cost, but Chelsea was serious about it. They must understand the full financial landscape. If his wage demands were too steep, why even engage in those talks? John Obi Mikel seems to think rekindling the deal is feasible, and he would likely have some inside knowledge from Osimhen and the club.
Time will tell. Personally, I’m skeptical because those financial demands might still be too high. With talks already underway to bring in Liam Delap before the Club World Cup, I’m doubtful about going for both Delap and Osimhen. Bringing in two strikers might be ambitious, but Delap and Osimhen together? I just don’t see it happening. Sorry, folks.
