On a lively Tuesday at the Bahrain International Circuit, Red Bull Racing kicked off the season with excitement as reigning world champion Max Verstappen joined forces with newcomer Liam Lawson. Together, they tested the team’s latest machine, the RB21, during a filming day that showcased the energy this duo brings.
Earlier in the day, the team from Milton Keynes unveiled a sneak peek of their 2025 contender with images that teased more than they revealed. But it wasn’t long before the car made its dramatic debut under the bright Bahraini sun, as Verstappen and Lawson took to the track for an early shakedown.
Max was the first to put the pedal to the metal, familiarizing himself with the track conditions on a wind-swept morning. Lawson soon followed, eager to experience the new RB21 firsthand. All in all, the pair clocked an impressive 198.6 kilometers.
### Verstappen: Thrilled to Be Back
“It’s fantastic to get back behind the wheel and feel the RB21 for the first time,” Max shared enthusiastically. “I managed to squeeze in a few laps. Today’s focus was really about getting comfortable with the car and figuring out the finer details. Over the coming days, we’ll dive deeper to learn more about its potential.”
Reflecting on the past season, Verstappen noted, “We’re aware of last year’s hiccups, so assessing performance is crucial. Our pace over the next few days will tell us a lot about our progress. With race day fast approaching, racking up mileage in testing is our priority to pinpoint where we can shave off those precious seconds.”
“Right now, my goals for the season remain open-ended since it’s early to gauge our competition level. But I’m eagerly awaiting the races,” he continued, citing Spa and Zandvoort as personal highlights on the calendar.
### Lawson: Strong First Impressions
Lawson was equally thrilled with his introduction to the RB21, commenting, “First impressions are really positive. Climbing into the car for the first time is always a thrill.”
With the fresh feel of his inaugural full season in Formula One, Lawson emphasized, “These preparation days, like today, are invaluable. It’s my first full stint in F1, so I’m soaking up everything. The RB21 is promising, and with upcoming tests, we’ll gather more insights. I’m most excited about diving into the races, having a comprehensive pre-season with the team, and growing as the year unfolds.”
His personal aim is clear: “Speed is my goal, being exactly where the team needs me. Reclaiming the Constructors’ title is a collective ambition. Achieving that would mean I did my job well,” he stated confidently. “Ultimately, we’re all striving to be at the front.”
