As teams across the nation reassessed and strengthened their rosters during the winter transfer window, we see the first highlights of notable transfer classes by position, starting with quarterbacks.
1. MIAMI
The Miami Hurricanes, who saw Cam Ward enter the NFL Draft, are set to replace him with Carson Beck, arguably one of the top quarterbacks in college football. Beck, who achieved tremendous success at Georgia with two national titles and nearly 8,000 passing yards along with 58 touchdowns, is expected to push Miami over the edge this year after they came close to the College Football Playoff last season.
2. OKLAHOMA
Oklahoma’s offense found itself in a difficult spot last season, but things are looking up with the arrival of John Mateer and the new offensive coordinator, Ben Arbuckle. This former Washington State standout brought versatility with his dual-threat capabilities and is set to reignite Oklahoma’s offense. Plus, Mateer’s eligibility lasts for another two years, giving the Sooners plenty of time with their new star.
3. AUBURN
Jackson Arnold, with his two years at Oklahoma that didn’t pan out as hoped for, comes to Auburn with the potential to steer one of college football’s most dynamic offenses. Unlike the unstable quarterback situation the Tigers faced last season, Arnold is expected to secure the QB1 position. Armed with this extraordinary arsenal, he’s well-positioned for a career revival.
4. INDIANA
Indiana is eyeing a return to the College Football Playoff, and coach Curt Cignetti believes Fernando Mendoza could be the key. Mendoza, who burst onto the scene at Cal, achieved 3,000 yards passing with 16 touchdowns last season. With two years of eligibility left, there’s room for development under his belt.
5. CAL
Jaron Sagapolutele’s journey to Cal was unconventional, but he’s set for a promising stint with the Golden Bears. Originally committed to Cal before eventually signing with Oregon, his transfer back offers him a fresh start. He now faces competition with former Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown for the starting role this fall.
