Imagine this: a week chock full of irons swinging, the satisfying smacks of drives thwacking off tees and, well, let’s not forget maybe one or two less satisfying splashes into water hazards. So, what’s up in the golf world this week? It’s practically raining tournaments everywhere! We’ve got the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, LPGA, and even those LIV guys — they’re all teed up and ready to go. And speaking of rain, don’t you just love how New Orleans can turn a sunny day into a downpour in the blink of an eye?
PGA TOUR? More like Teamwork Central in New Orleans
This week the pros are doing their thing at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which is like, I dunno, a golf buddy cop movie or something? It’s a team event, which is kinda fun, right? Pals Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry – these guys, seriously, they might as well be finishing each other’s sentences on the course – are gunning to defend their title.
They’ve even got this format where the pairs are chilling with fourball rounds on some days, then are, uh, forced to share the brain cell in alternate shots on others. Can you imagine the banter? Ha!
Tagging along in Hainan
New kid on the block alert! The DP World Tour – finally, not “European Tour” but everyone knows, right? – pitches its tent in Hainan for the Classic. That’s in China. So it’s like this rugged adventure happening in a place where… um, guess I have to look that up. Anyway, breaking new ground and all. Who knows, it might become "the major debut", or not.
LPGA does the Crown Jewel thing
Over on the LPGA side, we’ve got the Chevron Championship. I mean, everyone knows this as the Dinah Shore, but names change, celebrities keep hopping from one cause to another nowadays, right? Nelly Korda’s the queen bee this year, and everyone else is buzzing around trying to take her off the throne.
Okay, rewind back a sec — is it true Nelly once hit the ball into a cup from some crazy far distance? Nuts, right? The stuff legends are made of!
Elder Statesmen at the Electric Boogie Party?
Then there’s the whole Mitch… Mitsubishi? Electric Classic for the PGA TOUR Champions. Steven Ames is looking to bag the win again, this champ is on a mission. Maybe there’s a secret championship dance involved. Who knows, these experienced folks have tricks up their sleeves – seen that old clip of “Happy” Gilmore? Exactly.
Over in Korn Ferry Land…
The next stop – Veritex Bank Championship! It’s all Tim Widing’s game to lose. Or not, depending on how fate – or fate disguised as the darn wind – decrees. Golf’s as fickle as a cat with catnip, don’t you think?
You ever been to one of these Korn Ferry Tour events? It’s like everyone’s bursting with eager energy they can barely contain. Makes you want to cheer them all, sometimes you just forget who you’re actually rooting for.
Venturing South of the Border
LIV, coming in hot, or should I say… sizzling, like that taco I devoured by accident, in Mexico City. Though, don’t take my culinary advice, I’m more for the chips and salsa than a 7-course meal.
Have you noticed how they do even the trophies differently? I swear some golfers nearly disappear behind them. Or maybe I was seeing things late at night.
Meanwhile, no games over here
APGA and TGL? Taking the week off. Maybe they’re just chilling with a margarita someplace nice, I dunno. Everyone deserves a break now and then, right? Recharge, decompress – more chances to build twisty new swing tales next week, I guess.
So yeah, golf heaven—or close to it—is happening this week, minus the harp music. Tons of swinging action, fresh stories waiting to unfurl. If nothing else, it’s a party for anyone who loves the drama that only golf—with its quiet, contemplative kind of chaos—can bring.
