The Buffalo Bills wrapped up another impressive season with a 13-4 record, clinching the AFC East title for the fifth year in a row. As the #2 seed in the AFC playoffs, they breezed past the Denver Broncos with a 31-7 win in the wildcard round.
In a nail-biting divisional game, the Bills narrowly edged out the Baltimore Ravens, securing a 27-25 victory. However, their journey came to a halt in the AFC championship game against Kansas City. As the 2025 offseason rolls on, the Bills are busy securing their talent for the future. Just recently, they announced that linebacker Terrel Bernard will remain with the team, having signed a four-year contract extension worth $50 million.
At the heart of this deal, Bernard is guaranteed $25.2 million right up front—a testament to his value on the field and the confidence the team has in him moving forward.
Back in 2022, the Bills saw great potential in Bernard when they picked him in the third round out of Baylor. Fast forward, and the 25-year-old has been a vital part of Buffalo’s defense, playing in 46 games and starting 31 of them. His breakout year was in 2023, where he started all 17 regular-season games and notched up 143 combined tackles, including 84 solo tackles. His stats also boasted 10 tackles for loss, six and a half sacks, three interceptions, five defended passes, and three fumble recoveries.
During the 2024 season, Bernard continued to be a reliable presence in 13 games, recording 104 combined tackles and maintaining his reputation as an essential playmaker for head coach Sean McDermott’s defense. With the green dot on his helmet, Bernard is the conduit for plays from the sideline, showcasing his leadership on the field.
Bernard’s extension follows that of Kalil Shakir this offseason. Shakir, another key player for the Bills, also received a contract extension, rewarding his standout performance in 2024 where he led the team with 76 receptions for 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Both players have proven themselves as cornerstone pieces for Buffalo, making their extensions well-deserved.
