Draymond Green’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors has definitely stirred up its fair share of conversation, but if there’s one person who’s singing his praises, it’s head coach Steve Kerr.
In a chat with Dalton Johnson, Kerr didn’t hold back on his admiration for Green’s defensive prowess.
“He’s the best defender I’ve ever seen,” Kerr emphatically stated, according to NBACentral.
You might raise an eyebrow at this if you’re just glancing at Green’s stats. This season, he’s putting up 9.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. But stats sometimes don’t tell the whole story. Watching Green on the floor, it becomes pretty clear why Kerr holds him in such high regard. Green possesses this uncanny ability to outsmart his opponents, getting inside their heads and shutting down plays before they even start.
Green has certainly cultivated a reputation for being one of the league’s most intense and confrontational figures. There’s no denying that his fiery demeanor has led to a fair share of conflicts, with numerous ejections, suspensions, and technical fouls under his belt.
Yet, this season, just like before, Green remains the vital force that keeps the Warriors ticking. His influence is monumental, fostering strong team chemistry and forming bonds with just about anyone donning the Warriors jersey.
Green recently hinted at his ambition to snag the Defensive Player of the Year award once more, an accolade he first seized back in the 2016-17 season. With steep competition in the mix, will he take home that title again? Kerr certainly believes he’s got what it takes to be a key contender.
Whatever you make of Green’s style or approach, one thing’s for sure: he’s a game-changer on defense. Kerr – alongside a legion of Warriors fans – stands firm in his conviction, considering Green to be the best the game has ever seen in that role.
Will this season or perhaps the next bring Green another Defensive Player of the Year honor? That’s still up in the air. What’s certain, though, is that he’ll keep pouring his heart and soul into his gameplay every single night.
