The UFC event in Seattle on Saturday saw an electrifying face-off between the former two-division champ, Henry Cejudo, and Song Yadong, who holds the No. 8 rank. Just as the momentum was building, an unexpected moment halted the action.
Cejudo struggled early on to get past Yadong’s impressive reach. However, by the second round, Cejudo began to land some effective strikes. By the third, both fighters were throwing powerful punches with the clear aim of sealing the fight. Unfortunately, an accidental eye poke took Cejudo out of the running, unable to continue. The fight outcome fell to the judge’s scorecards for the first three rounds, awarding Yadong a unanimous decision victory. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Yadong was quick to propose a rematch during his post-fight interview.
“It was a complete accident. This wasn’t the outcome I wanted. Sorry, Henry—he’s such a legend. I strongly believe we should have another go,” Yadong openly remarked after the fight.
Despite the mutual desire for a rematch between the fighters, UFC CEO Dana White was not on board, firmly dismissing the idea during the UFC Seattle Post-Fight Press Conference.
When faced with the prospect of a rematch, White decisively stated, “Not at all. Not even a little bit.” He added with finality, “I just don’t want to see it again.”
