Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United defender, might be considering stepping away from his role at TNT Sports once this season wraps up. During his time at Manchester United, Ferdinand took to the field 455 times over a span of 12 seasons. His tenure at the club was nothing short of spectacular, marked by clinching six Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy in 2008.
After departing from United in 2014, Ferdinand had a brief stint with Queen’s Park Rangers for one season before he retired. Post-retirement, Ferdinand transitioned into a successful broadcasting career. For viewers in Britain, he’s become a familiar face on TNT Sports, particularly for Premier League and Champions League coverage.
Recent speculation, brought to light by the Daily Mail, raises questions about the future of the 46-year-old at the company. According to the report, there are growing concerns among insiders at TNT Sports about Ferdinand potentially moving on at the season’s end. Having been a fixture at TNT since 2015, he’s regarded as a crucial element of their sports coverage team. Yet, unease grows due to his hesitation in signing a new contract, which has been on the table for months without any commitments from Ferdinand.
Further fueling this speculation is the recent development involving Ferdinand’s management company, New Era. They’ve entered into a partnership with WME, a major talent agency located in Beverly Hills, a move reported by the Hollywood Reporter that has caught attention at TNT’s headquarters. With the USA gearing up to co-host the upcoming World Cup in 2026 alongside Canada and Mexico, an American venture may entice Ferdinand. WME’s focus appears to be on expanding Ferdinand’s opportunities in the U.S., both in front and behind the camera.
