Nestled off the beaten path in the quaint town of Rogers City, Michigan, the Rogers City Country Club Golf Course is truly a hidden gem. Though the town itself is small, with a population of just 2,850, this charming course near the shores of Lake Huron is well worth a visit for anyone in the area.
The golf course beautifully combines parkland and meadow designs, offering two distinct sections. On the west side of Golf Course Road, you have a classic, traditional nine holes with a unique hatchet-shaped layout. The first hole takes you along the top ‘blade’, while the subsequent holes zigzag down and up the ‘handle’, making efficient use of an irregular plot of land.
Cross over to the east side, and you’ll find a more modern and open back nine, complete with rolling hills and a meadows-inspired design. Despite their differences, both halves of the course are a delightful play.
While no single hole screams grandeur, the course as a whole ensures a smooth gameplay experience, from tee-off to your final putt. The wide fairways and minimal hazards make for an enjoyable and straightforward round. For a particularly memorable moment, do check out the par-four ninth hole. With its picturesque barn backdrop and strategic placement amidst the trees, it adds a touch of unique charm to your game.
The course measures just over 6,000 yards from the tips, which makes it accessible to golfers of all skill levels. It includes two par fives and finishes rather unusually on a par three, adding a unique twist to your round.
On the day of my visit, the course was in great shape—tees, fairways, and greens all in immaculate condition. The natural beauty was further enhanced by the mix of tall fescue and wildflowers lining many of the holes, adding vibrant colors and textures against the meticulously maintained greens.
Given its picturesque settings and welcoming layout, Rogers City Country Club is a spot I’ll be sure to visit again. Situated about an hour from my northern Michigan base, it’s a convenient escape for a day of golfing bliss. Whether you’re serious about the game or just looking to enjoy a relaxing day outdoors, Rogers City Country Club is a fantastic choice.
