Last weekend, a New York Jets player found himself at the center of a frightening event in the New Jersey suburbs. According to reports from the police, this was a planned robbery that targeted him and another individual.
Authorities are on the lookout for the culprits who are suspected of tailing the victims for over 30 miles from Manhattan. They tracked them all the way to a home within the serene Windmill Pond community, where the shocking incident took place on Saturday morning, according to a Facebook post by the Morristown Department of Public Safety.
Folks in the typically quiet Morristown area were stirred up around 8 a.m. when police arrived following multiple neighbor reports of an armed robbery.
A neighbor shared with NBC 4 New York that one of the robbed individuals is indeed an NFL player with the Jets.
Eyewitnesses recounted a tense scene where three armed men stepped out of a dark SUV and confronted two people in another vehicle, demanding possessions at gunpoint, as per police statements.
A bystander, choosing to remain anonymous, expressed disbelief to the news outlet: “Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around what occurred. I just saw them grab something from the garage and thought, ‘Oh my God, this is a robbery.'”
While the Jets player’s identity remains unspecified, the suspects reportedly escaped with cash and other valuables. Authorities assured the incident to be a singular occurrence.
Thankfully, no one was hurt during the ordeal. Nevertheless, the investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet.
A neighbor remarked on the unsettling nature of such incidents, stating, “It’s worrying to see high-profile figures being targeted like this. It’s alarming, but all we can do is hope it doesn’t happen again.”
Attempts to reach the Morristown Department of Public Safety and the Morris County Prosecutors Office for comments went unanswered at the time.
