A college football coach at a prominent university is now under fire following some serious accusations outlined in a recent report.
According to a piece by ESPN’s Xaun Thai, Stanford Cardinal head coach Troy Taylor stands accused of belittling and bullying female staff members associated with the team. Allegations have surfaced that Taylor made inappropriate comments regarding a woman’s appearance and attempted to remove an NCAA compliance officer after being informed of potential rule violations on his part.
Taylor, who joined Stanford’s ranks in 2023, reportedly signed a document accepting that his conduct could lead to termination based on the initial investigation findings. This inquiry wrapped up in February 2024, followed by a second one concluding in July of the same year.
In a statement from Stanford, Taylor expressed that he fully cooperated with both investigations and saw them as a chance for personal growth. “I willingly complied with the investigations, accepted the recommendations that came out of them, and used them as a learning opportunity to grow in leadership and how I interact with others,” he mentioned on Wednesday.
However, the second investigation concluded that Taylor’s behavior pattern remains an issue. Timothy O’Brien, senior counsel at Libby, O’Brien, Kingsley & Champion law firm, conducted the second review and noted he’d never encountered such open animosity and disdain for a university’s compliance office before.
“Even during the interview with me, when discussing compliance issues, Coach Taylor’s tone was forceful and aggressive,” O’Brien remarked.
O’Brien further determined that Taylor’s interactions with Stanford’s compliance officer were “inappropriate, discriminatory on the basis of her sex,” and significantly hindered her ability to perform her job effectively. He added, “Under Coach Taylor’s leadership, the football program has disregarded or simply not followed NCAA rules that they have been repeatedly and consistently educated on by the Compliance Office,” referencing seven minor infractions occurring under Taylor’s leadership.
As Taylor heads into his third season with Stanford, following two consecutive 3-9 records, the team has kicked off play in the ACC this year. They’ll be striving to avoid finishing at the bottom of the conference in 2025.
