Bowling Green has been on the hunt for a new head football coach ever since Scot Loeffler stepped down to join the Philadelphia Eagles as their quarterback coach.
Over his six-year tenure, Loeffler guided the team to a 27-41 record. Although Bowling Green made it to a bowl game in the last three seasons, they unfortunately didn’t secure a win in any of them. The team did see a high point in 2024 with a 7-6 season before Loeffler decided on his departure to the Eagles.
Now in search of a new leader, Bowling Green has been actively conducting interviews. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Eddie George, the current head coach at Tennessee State, has become a notable contender for the position.
After going through the interview process on Friday, George stands as one of three finalists for the role.
Reports suggest a decision is near, with George emerging as a strong possibility for the job. You can catch the update via Pete Thamel’s tweet on March 8, 2025.
George’s coaching career at Tennessee State spans four seasons, during which he led the team to an impressive 9-4 record in 2024 and a spot in the FCS playoffs.
Before stepping into the coaching realm, George had an extraordinary college career at Ohio State, leaving his mark as a standout player from 1992 to 1995. His stellar performance in 1995 earned him the Heisman Trophy, with stats showing 303 carries for a whopping 1,826 yards and 23 touchdowns. Over his college career, he accumulated 643 carries, 3,578 yards, and 43 touchdowns.
Following college, George took his talents to the NFL, where he played for nine seasons from 1996 to 2004, beginning with the Houston Oilers. He then spent the better part of his career with the Titans before finishing with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004.
During his NFL tenure, George surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in seven seasons, solidifying his place as the Titans’ all-time leading rusher with 10,009 yards—a feat that earned him the retirement of his iconic No. 27 jersey.
We’ll be waiting to see if Bowling Green finalizes their choice with George in the coming weeks.
