Charlotte, NC — So, get this, the Carolina Panthers have decided to pick up this massive project (quite literally). Colin Granger, once a big shot on the basketball court, is now gearing up to tackle the world of football. Yeah, we’re talking about a dude who stands at 6-foot-8 and weighs in at a lean 245 pounds—like, can you even imagine?
For five long years, Granger dribbled and dunked his way through college at Ohio, Western Carolina, and then Coastal Carolina. Seems like a lifetime ago since his high school days, and technically he was up for grabs in the draft last year, would you believe? Anyway, now he’s taking a swing at the whole tight end thing with the Panthers.
Oh, and there’s this pic of him floating around—it’s got this energy, you know? Like, you can almost hear the basketball squeaking across the hardwood. Go figure.
The kid is jumping headfirst into the deep end with some seasoned guys—Tommy Tremble, Ja’Tavion Sanders, the whole crew. And, you know, it’s not like Coach Dave Canales or GM Dan Morgan are strangers to these wild experiments. They were all in when Seattle decided to give George Fant—a former Western Kentucky basketball/football whatever hybrid—a shot. Fant was a hefty 6-5, 315 pounds. Like, imagine being that size and trying not to stand out.
Here’s a fun tidbit, Fant’s stuck around for seven seasons! That’s like half an eternity in NFL years. Now he’s taken Granger under his wing, whispering sweet football nothings into his ear until he signed with the Panthers.
Weird thing? Granger hasn’t been near a football since… well, middle school. Yep. Eighth grade. But hey, no pressure, right? They’re dreaming big—hoping he’ll join the ranks of Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham. You know, all those former basketball big shots who made a name catching passes and dodging tackles. Dreams can come true, apparently. Or at least that’s the narrative they’re going with. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll be writing about his epic end zone dance. Here’s hoping.
