Heartfelt prayers are being offered up following the tragic discovery of a college football player’s death in Ohio, involving an incident off-campus.
Saturday night brought sorrow to a Greater Cincinnati area college community as police responded to an off-campus situation involving Wilmington College. A sophomore football player was tragically found deceased, the result of a gunshot wound.
The player was identified as Tony Crane, a sophomore lineman, whose life was cut short, marking the beginning of an ongoing investigation.
Sigrid Solomon, the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, issued a touching statement that mourned this devastating loss.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Tony Crane, one of our sophomores, who left us this morning. Tony was cherished as a teammate and a brother in the Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity. We’ve made Counseling and Campus Ministry Services accessible to students in need. Wilmington Police Department is handling the investigation and have assured us there is no ongoing threat to our community. We pledge to keep the College informed as authorities provide us with updates,” Solomon shared.
In a detailed press release, the Wilmington Police Department shed light on the circumstances of the incident. Officers arrived at the DTS Fraternity House around 12:43 a.m. on March 23, finding Crane with a fatal gunshot injury. Sadly, he was declared dead on the scene. A firearm was found, and authorities have confirmed that there is no active threat to public safety.
The community and friends are rallying around his family in prayer.
“I’m thankful to have called you a brother! Even though you’ll be missed at shows, in the house, and across campus, your legacy and passion for agriculture and the fraternity will live on with us. I’ll carry your memory in my heart, especially at the barn, keep watching over us, Tony,” a friend expressed heartfully.
Another friend urged, “Please keep the Crane family in your prayers. Tragically, we lost one of our own, Tony Crane, who was just a sophomore in college. As more details about services and ways to aid the Crane family become available, I’ll keep everyone updated.”
“Praying,” simply wrote another friend, capturing the raw emotion felt by many.
Our hearts go out to Tony’s friends and family, offering thoughts and condolences during these incredibly tough days.
May Tony Crane rest in peace.
