Friday’s highly anticipated ONE Championship Fight Night in Thailand has been called off, as confirmed by the organization.
The event, titled ONE Friday Fights 102, was scheduled to dazzle fans at Bangkok’s renowned Lumpinee Stadium. However, a powerful earthquake, registering at a magnitude of 7.7, struck Myanmar late Thursday. The tremors were so intense that even Bangkok, situated over 600 miles away, experienced significant effects.
According to a tweet from ONE Championship, the seismic activity not only impacted Myanmar but also greatly affected Bangkok. Consequently, tonight’s event has been canceled to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved. The organization expressed their deepest sympathies to those affected and urged everyone to stay safe.
Broadcast footage has shown the scale of devastation, including tragic fatalities in Bangkok, where a building collapse was reported. Following the initial quake, a substantial aftershock measuring 6.4 on the magnitude scale further rattled the region.
Moreover, while no formal statement has been issued yet, the fate of the ONE event scheduled for April 4 in Bangkok remains uncertain amidst these developments.
