With the NFL Combine just around the corner, rumors are circulating that Shedeur Sanders, the talented quarterback from Colorado, might bypass throwing in front of scouts in Indianapolis.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network shared that Sanders, who recently bagged the Unitas Award, intends to concentrate on other facets of the event. Yet, the way Rapoport put it didn’t sit well with everyone.
Rapoport tweeted, “Colorado QB and potential leading pick Shedeur Sanders plans to focus on his team interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine, allowing them to get to know him better as a person. He’ll rely on his four years of film to make his case and will showcase his throwing skills at his Pro Day alongside four draftable CU receivers.”
Some followers were quick to voice their skepticism. One commented, “This seems like blatant PR work from a so-called journalist.” Others questioned the source of the wording, asking if it came directly from Sanders’s agent or from Deion Sanders, often referred to as “Prime.”
Another fan pointed out, “Spinning it as a learning opportunity instead of saying he won’t participate in workouts or throws is odd. What does ‘learn him as a person’ really mean?”
Rapoport added that Sanders has already impressed teams with his composure and intelligence off the field, setting expectations that he’ll continue to do so in Indianapolis.
The reactions kept pouring in. Some found humor in the choice of words, calling it “agent-speak” and “copy-paste” in nature. One user chuckled, “That’s an awfully long-winded way of saying he’ll skip the drills at the combine.”
Historically, many quarterbacks prefer the controlled setting of their Pro Day over the Combine, allowing them to perform without being scrutinously picked apart. As draft season approaches, Sanders is anticipated to be one of the top picks in April, with many predicting he’ll go to the Cleveland Browns at pick No. 2.
