A newspaper in New Zealand recently released a satirical illustration aimed at Red Bull after the company decided to replace Liam Lawson. On Thursday, Red Bull confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda would be their driver at the Japanese Grand Prix, leaving Lawson to return to Racing Bulls.
Lawson’s stint with Red Bull was brief, only lasting two races before he was replaced. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, his experiences in Australia and China were anything but smooth as he struggled, placing at the back of the grid and failing to challenge for points.
The decision hasn’t sat well with fans in New Zealand, Lawson’s homeland. The New Zealand Herald, the country’s prominent daily, published a cartoon criticizing Red Bull’s move. The cartoon cleverly tweaks Red Bull’s famous slogan, “Red Bull gives you wings,” to “Red Bull clips your wings.” This phrase accompanies a cartoon depiction of Lawson walking away from a pair of broken wings.
