It seems like Aaron Rodgers and Steelers’ safety DeShon Elliott have already sorted out their past misunderstandings as they gear up for the offseason.
In a bit of a social media moment back on February 12, Elliott cheekily suggested on Instagram that Rodgers should “leave his ass at the retirement home.” However, more recently, the two were spotted together, grinning at a training facility. It seems all water under the bridge now. Rodgers, who didn’t quite have the seasons he’d hoped for with the Jets and is about to hit free agency, was deep in training when the photo with Elliott was taken.
Proactive SP, a training outfit known for working with NFL talents such as former Steeler Chase Claypool, shared the undated snapshot on their Instagram. They added a playful caption: “Who retires first? #WhatAreYouCapableOf.”
Looking ahead to 2025, the Steelers have emerged as a potential new home for Rodgers. With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields delivering only middling performances for Pittsburgh, there’s buzz around where Rodgers might land next. In the betting world, DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Steelers as the frontrunners, with the Raiders not far behind.
NFL insider Peter King has added more fuel to this speculation. He noted that Wilson seemed to hit a wall towards the end of the season, suggesting it might be time for the Steelers to consider a change at quarterback. “I think we have seen Russell Wilson hit a wall, and whether [head coach] Mike Tomlin is even thinking about it,” King opined back in January.
“If I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, knowing that I’ve got Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt — I got guys on defense with their expiration dates not long in the future — I would want to come in and try to get a quarterback who could make me competitive with Baltimore and Cincinnati in 2025. And that guy, to me, is Aaron Rodgers.”
Elliott, much like Rodgers, is no stranger to making bold comments off the field. Perhaps as they work out together, they find common ground in this shared trait. His earlier quip about Rodgers was a reaction to a post that highlighted the Steelers’ strong odds of being his next destination.
