During Thursday night’s match against the Chicago Bulls, Nets standout Cam Thomas unfortunately injured his left hamstring. As of Saturday, the team has confirmed that, due to the limited time remaining in the season and the healing process required, the 23-year-old will likely sit out the rest of the year.
This setback marks the third issue with his hamstring this season, keeping him sidelined for much of it, with only 25 appearances under his belt. Yet, when Thomas has been on the court, he’s been nothing short of impressive, maintaining an average of 24 points per game—his best yet. He led the team with six remarkable performances where he scored over 30 points, notably reaching a season peak of 43 points on November 15 against the Knicks.
In his last game of the season, Thomas achieved his first career double-double, scoring 24 points and adding 10 assists. As the Nets consider their options this offseason, it will be intriguing to see their approach with Thomas, who’s in the final year of his rookie contract and is poised to become a restricted free agent.
While it seemed Thomas was on track for a lucrative new deal earlier in the year, it remains to be seen how these recurring injuries might impact his future negotiations.
