The Nebraska Cornhuskers have decided to call off their upcoming football matchups against an SEC rival. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the planned games for 2026 and 2027 between Nebraska and Tennessee have been scrapped. Initially, Nebraska was supposed to welcome Tennessee to Lincoln in 2026, with the Cornhuskers returning the favor by traveling to Knoxville in 2027.
Thamel pointed out that one reason behind this decision is Nebraska’s desire to host eight home games in 2027. This move is financially driven, as the university is planning renovations that will likely reduce the stadium’s capacity and, subsequently, its revenue. By adding an additional home game, Nebraska hopes to balance out the expected dip in earnings.
