With the NFL Draft approaching in just a few weeks and Shedeur Sanders experiencing a bit of a dip in his draft stock, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has some intriguing thoughts. He speculates that a team could potentially land both Sanders and his former Colorado teammate, Travis Hunter, in the first round.
Reviewing Field Yates’ recent two-round mock draft on Wednesday, the veteran draft analyst floated an interesting scenario—one where Sanders and Hunter could find themselves playing together in the NFL again. And surprisingly, making this happen might not be as challenging as it seems.
“I’m considering who might be the best player available—on my board, that’s Travis Hunter,” Kiper noted. “If he’s available and you’re picking third, and Shedeur Sanders ranks fifth on your board, does it make sense to take a quarterback just because he’s a quarterback? Maybe not.”
He then suggested, “Picture this: you grab Travis Hunter at three, Shedeur Sanders slides down, and you trade back into the first round to snag him. Boom—Hunter and Sanders, both on the Giants? That’s a scenario that could actually happen. In Field’s Mock Draft 4.0, Shedeur is at No. 3 to the Giants, which I wouldn’t mind at all.”
For such a scenario to unfold, Shedeur would need to slip significantly during the draft—a possibility Kiper doesn’t dismiss outright.
Reflecting further, Kiper posed another possibility, “Imagine if Shedeur Sanders falls into the 15 to 20 range and the Steelers eye him. If the Giants pass on him for Hunter, do they then maneuver to secure both of Colorado’s standouts—the dynamic quarterback and the versatile Travis Hunter? That would certainly make the draft exciting.”
Kiper didn’t hold back on his enthusiasm, saying, “All week, I’ve stated this: Shedeur Sanders might be the most captivating draft prospect I’ve encountered in my 47 years of following the draft. Seeing where he lands will be truly fascinating.”
