Miami’s head coach, Mario Cristobal, is expressing strong confidence in the abilities of his former quarterback, Cam Ward, who he believes has the potential to excel at the NFL level.
Ward made a significant impact on the Hurricanes in 2024 after making the shift from Washington State. He’s now among a select group of prospects who have a real shot at being chosen first in the 2025 NFL Draft. It’s no secret that the NFL is heavily focused on quarterbacks, and both Ward and Shedeur Sanders from Colorado are seen as the top contenders in this draft class.
Cristobal, however, doesn’t hesitate to assert that Ward should unquestionably be the No. 1 pick.
“From my perspective, Ward deserves to be the top draft pick because he’s the most fierce competitor and the finest player nationwide,” Cristobal shared on Tuesday’s “SportsCenter” (per On3). “His competitive nature, his character, and the way he inspires those around him are unmatched. Truly, he’s a player who has transformed the profile of our university, uplifting everyone in his orbit. I firmly believe that he’s capable of taking a franchise and raising its level, along with everyone involved.”
