Manchester United’s rumored interest in coach Simone Inzaghi has taken a twist as he has secured a hefty pay raise to remain with Inter Milan. Though United’s owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has shown support for Ruben Amorim continuing as the club’s manager next season, speculation about Amorim’s future persists.
Currently sitting in 13th place on the league table, the Red Devils face an uphill battle to secure a top-half finish, with only nine matches remaining this season. There is, however, a potential gateway to a trophy and Champions League qualification through a Europa League victory, as they gear up to face Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter-finals.
Before Amorim’s appointment, there was buzz about Inzaghi being a “serious contender” for the role, with whispers that he had even agreed to take the reins at Old Trafford for the 2025/2026 season. Obviously, this didn’t materialize. More recently, insiders suggested that United might consider the Italian coach for next season, should they decide to part ways with Amorim.
However, it seems Simone Inzaghi is no longer an option for Manchester United, as he’s set to renew his commitment to Inter Milan. According to Corriere della Sera, though his current contract runs until the summer of 2026, Inter’s president Beppe Marotta has indicated that extending the agreement is straightforward, praising Inzaghi as “among the best in the world.”
The report suggests that Inter are poised to offer an extension through 2027, which would increase his base salary to €7.5 million, potentially rising to €10 million with bonuses. This extension serves as a testament to Inzaghi’s impressive performance, with Inter leading Serie A and making strides in both the Champions League and the domestic cup semi-finals.
Furthermore, an Italian news outlet mentions that Chelsea, Arsenal, and United have shown recent interest in the 48-year-old manager, prompting Inter to safeguard their prized leader from any potential poaching attempts. The proposed contract will make Inzaghi the highest-earning coach in Italy.
