Carlos Ulberg’s recent victory at UFC Fight Night 255 didn’t quite impress Magomed Ankalaev enough for a title shot consideration.
Ulberg, boasting a record of 12-1 in MMA and 8-1 in the UFC, secured his eighth consecutive victory by besting former champion Jan Blachowicz, who stands at 29-11-1 in MMA and 12-8-1 in the UFC. This win came during the co-main event held at London’s iconic venue, The O2. Despite this achievement, Ulberg’s hopes for a title shot seem to clash with the perspective of UFC light heavyweight champion Ankalaev.
Ankalaev, whose MMA record is 21-1-1 and 12-1-1 in the UFC, believes that Alex Pereira, currently standing at 12-3 in MMA and 9-2 in the UFC, is the frontrunner for challenging the title. This stance follows Pereira’s triumph over him to seize the championship belt at UFC 313 not long ago.
Ankalaev straightforwardly expressed his view: “A good win for Carlos but Alex is next. He deserves it more than anyone,” he shared via a tweet.
Following Ulberg’s recent triumph over Blachowicz, Ankalaev also touched upon his viewpoint about the light heavyweight division.
He remarked, “Alex is on a different level than all these guys,” once again emphasizing his belief in Pereira’s skill.
