So, Liverpool had Conor Bradley back on the field last weekend. But if you’re like me, you’re probably wondering what’s happening with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, and Joe Gomez. These guys are like the backbone of the team and… well, it’s been a rocky ride without them, to say the least. I think we’re all holding our breath a little until things stabilize. Or maybe that’s just me being dramatic. Who knows.
We’re staring down the barrel of seven games in the next six weeks – kind of intense, right? Seriously, if anyone gets hurt now, you can basically kiss the rest of this 2024/25 season goodbye. I’m not trying to be a pessimist, just keeping it real.
Now, about those still stuck on the injury bench. Arne Slot’s waiting, just like the rest of us, for Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, and Gomez to strap on those boots again. They’ve been out for about two, three, and a mind-boggling 11 games, respectively. I mean, 11 games? It feels like forever and a day, doesn’t it?
Good news though! Alisson is back on the training pitch after, get this, a concussion during international duty with Brazil. (Side note: Is it just me, or do concussions seem slightly more dramatic than regular injuries? Like, I get nervous just saying the word.) Anyway, he’s got to check all the boxes in the fit-to-play list before we see him again. Our buddy Caoimhin Kelleher’s been holding the fort until then.
There’s chat in The Mail by Lewis Steele (dude seems to be in the know) saying the Liverpool crew is crossing their fingers that Alisson will be ready for the West Ham battle at Anfield on Sunday. Crossing fingers seems more art than science but, hey, if that’s the FA’s guideline, who am I to question? That whole three-week protocol thing sounds so scientific, doesn’t it?
Looking at the positives (which I sometimes forget to do, oops), Alisson might just be the only one making a comeback against West Ham. As for Alexander-Arnold, he’s on this recovery track. He’s been whispering in the grapevine — or maybe just through Steele — that he wants back on the pitch this month. However, the crystal ball hasn’t shown a clear fixture for his return just yet. My trust is in how his ankle vibes with training, and after West Ham, there are only Leicester (April 20) and Tottenham (April 27) left in April’s lineup.
Gomez, our fellow, is still holding onto hopes of returning this season, despite his hamstring pulling shenanigans since December. Hamstring injuries are sneaky little devils, aren’t they? He’s missed 19 games already. Yikes.
All things considered, Slot’s team isn’t in a terrible spot, injury-wise, heading into the season finale. It’s sort of okay-ish, I guess? But let’s be honest, there’s some itching for Slot to mix things up and share the workload in the last stretch of this season. Sharing is caring, after all, and we need these players back in one piece!
