The past few years at USC have certainly been a rollercoaster ride for Lincoln Riley. After a promising 11-3 start in his inaugural season, the Trojans hit a rough patch, managing only a 14-11 record over the next two years.
Recently, though, it seems like USC is finally catching its stride. Thanks to the efforts of new general manager Chad Bowden and an energized recruiting team, the Trojans boast the top-ranked recruiting class in the nation for the 2026 cycle.
Last week, Riley sat down with On3’s J.D. Pickell to talk about the team’s offseason strategies and his aspirations for the program moving forward.
“USC offers so many incredible opportunities,” Riley shared. “But it really takes some figuring out to leverage them effectively. I believe we’ve made significant progress.”
He added, “At the same time, we’re navigating the ever-changing landscape of college football. It’s made me focus on taking things one step at a time, avoiding the trap of getting too fixated on immediate outcomes. It’s crucial to remember that there’s a larger picture at play here.”
“We’re in the midst of building something significant. By consistently progressing towards that championship level—with the right people, actions, and player development—the results we all crave will follow. And I have no doubt that they’ll come.”
Riley continued, “Everyone in this organization senses it. That’s why we’ve been able to attract such talented individuals, and it’s why we all are so optimistic about the future of USC football.”
USC has extended both time and resources to allow Riley to bring his vision to life. Now, the onus is on him to deliver. Riley must continue to secure victories on the field and excel in recruiting to prove he’s the right leader for the Trojans as college football evolves into a new era.
