The New York Jets have decided to part ways with Aaron Rodgers after enduring two tough seasons with him under center. As one would expect with a quarterback of his caliber, even in the twilight of his career, there’s some buzz about potential teams looking to bring him on board.
Recent chatter has thrown the Los Angeles Rams into the mix as a possible landing spot for Rodgers. It seems they’re open to the possibility of trading Matthew Stafford, who has been their main guy for the past four seasons and even led them to a Super Bowl victory in 2021.
But not everyone is sold on this idea. Keyshawn Johnson voiced his reservations on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak.” He argued that securing Rodgers might not be the wisest move for the Rams. Johnson’s concern seems to stem from Rodgers’ current form and suggests that bringing him in could diminish the celebrated offensive reputation of head coach Sean McVay.
The Rams did have a tough time immediately following their championship success. However, they’ve managed to bounce back a bit, clinching 10 wins and making playoff appearances in each of the seasons since.
On paper, the notion of Rodgers joining a team with promising young talent sounds appealing. But the reality is, Rodgers might not be the superstar he once was. He’s been known to want significant input on team decisions, both on the field and off, which sometimes stirs the pot more than it helps.
This past season showed flashes of the old Rodgers magic here and there. Yet, more often than not, he seemed past his prime. Statistically, he wrapped up the season with 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, but his completion rate fell to just 63%, and a passer rating of 90.5 marked his lowest in any full season.
