Sunday night was anything but calm at the Frost Bank Center when a brawl erupted during the third quarter of the San Antonio Spurs’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tensions soared as multiple players were handed their marching orders.
The drama unfolded with roughly three minutes remaining in the quarter. Kenrich Williams, a forward for the Thunder, was defending Spurs’ Julian Champagnie on the wing. In the heat of the moment, as Champagnie attempted to dish the ball inside, his elbow made a seemingly unintentional connection with Williams’ face.
The accidental hit did not sit well with Williams, sparking an immediate clash between the players near the scorers’ table, just as Jeremy Sochan completed a slam dunk. The altercation quickly escalated into a bout of pushing and shoving, prompting coaches and officials to intervene and restore order.
Although the scuffle was short-lived, it ended with significant consequences. Both Williams and Champagnie were slapped with technical fouls and got ejected from the game. To add to the chaotic scene, Oklahoma City’s guard Lou Dort also found himself ejected. Jeremy Sochan, after joining the fray post-dunk, received a technical foul of his own.
Before his ejection, Champagnie had put up eight points. Dort left the game with nine points and nine boards, while Williams had contributed three rebounds and an assist. As the dust settled and the third quarter came to a close, the Thunder were on top with a 108-100 lead heading into the final stretch.
