Renowned professional wrestler John Cena recently opened up about a personal battle with skin cancer, using his experience to advocate for the importance of sunscreen. Neutrogena has enlisted the WWE superstar to front their campaign for the Ultra Sheer Mineral Face Liquid Sunscreen SPF 70.
Cena, known not only for his wrestling prowess but also as an actor and bestselling author, hails from Massachusetts. He later made the sunny move to Florida, but admits that he never took sun protection seriously. “I was just too stubborn,” Cena confessed. “I didn’t want to bother with a skincare routine, and I wrongly believed I was immune to the risks. It was a reality check, after years of soaking up the sun without protection.”
The consequences hit home, as Cena revealed to PEOPLE Magazine. “During a routine visit to the dermatologist, they found a cancerous spot on my right pec. That was the wake-up call that finally got me to start wearing sunscreen,” he recounted.
Cena expressed gratitude for his dermatologist, who offered guidance through the daunting experience. “I was fortunate to have a fantastic dermatologist who reassured me. Although the statistics are sobering, nothing beats a direct, human connection,” Cena emphasized. “There’s nothing like that call to make you realize how unpredictable and scary it can be.”
The journey didn’t end there. “Just a year later, another spot appeared near my right shoulder, and that had to be removed too,” Cena explained. “It’s a reminder that if you watch WWE closely, you might spot these telltale signs.”
Through his story, Cena hopes to shed light on the importance of sun protection and encourage others to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health.
