As NFL free agency heats up, teams are locking in their rosters for the upcoming 2025 season and beyond. Making headlines on March 5, the Los Angeles Chargers decided to part ways with Joey Bosa, one of their most enduring players.
Bosa has been a staple of the Chargers’ lineup for nine seasons. Now, according to NFL insiders, he’s on his way to the Buffalo Bills with a one-year contract worth $12.6 million for the 2025 season. In Buffalo, Bosa will step into the shoes of the seasoned edge rusher Von Miller, who the Bills released earlier this offseason.
Exciting news came through the grapevine as the Bills inked a deal with Joey Bosa, locking him in for the upcoming season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped the scoop on Twitter, confirming that the five-time Pro Bowler Bosa agreed to terms with the Bills, showcasing the tweet as evidence of this major free agency move.
Back in 2016, during the NFL draft, Bosa was scooped up by the Chargers as the third overall pick straight out of Ohio State. His rookie year saw him playing in 12 of the team’s 16 games, starting in 11 of those. He impressed with 10.5 sacks, disrupted 17 plays behind the line, and landed 21 hits on the quarterback, earning himself the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year title. Over six seasons with the Chargers, he notched four Pro Bowl selections from 2016 to 2021, accumulating 58 sacks during that time.
However, Bosa’s performance took a dip after 2021, with injuries limiting his playtime. Over the last three years, he’s managed 14 total sacks. In 2022 and 2023, injuries kept him off the field, as he only participated in 14 games across both seasons. But in 2024, Bosa made a bit of a comeback, appearing in 14 out of 17 games, notching five sacks, two forced fumbles, three tackles for loss, and 13 quarterback hits.
While Bosa may not be the force he once was, the Buffalo Bills are confident he still has plenty to offer. The 29-year-old has secured a one-year deal worth $12.6 million. As a seasoned Pro Bowler, Bosa will hit 30 before the next season starts. He’s set to join Buffalo’s starting defensive line, playing alongside Greg Rousseau, who just landed a four-year extension. The Bills are banking on Bosa’s experience and skill to make a significant impact in the 2025 season, marking a new chapter in his decade-long NFL career as he suits up for Buffalo.
