Joel Embiid, you know, the big guy from the Sixers, just had another surgery on his left knee. Yep, again. I mean, it’s like the knee can’t catch a break. Or maybe, it’s just that knees and basketball have this weird love-hate thing going on. Anyway, they did it at the NYU Langone Sports Medicine Center. Fancy name, right? Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow was the mastermind behind the surgery, snip-snap and all that jazz.
So, what’s next? Well, they say Embiid’s going to be on the shelf for about another six weeks – maybe more, maybe less. You know how these things go. Like, honestly, do they have a magic eight ball predicting these timelines? “Will Joel heal in six weeks?” Outlook not so clear.
The team’s basically said, “Hey, Joel, take a break. See you next season.” Which makes sense because he only played 19 games this time around. But man, when he was on the court – 23.8 points, 8.2 boards, 4.5 dishes. Those are numbers you can’t ignore. I could barely manage to count that high, let alone score in a game at all.
But here’s the kicker, this isn’t the first time around the block for his knee surgery in recent memory. The guy’s been fighting pain and swelling – the knee seems to have a personality of its own, always demanding attention. You’d think with all the imaging and treatments, the knee would’ve gotten the hint to behave, but nope. It’s like it’s on its own little rebellion tour. Rock on, knee.
Oh, and did I mention the Sixers tied him down with a whopping three-year, $193 million deal last September? I mean, who wouldn’t want that kind of commitment, right? Enough cash to make us all look at our own knees and think, “Hmm, maybe I should start jumping a bit more?” Ha, yeah right. Anyway, while he’s resting up, here’s hoping he comes back stronger and maybe, just maybe, his knee will decide to play nice.
