The Dallas Cowboys’ roster has seen a shake-up with some quarterback maneuvers. After Cooper Rush headed off to join the Baltimore Ravens and Trey Lance struck a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, the Cowboys needed a new backup quarterback. So, they pulled the trigger on a trade with the New England Patriots, handing over a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in exchange for Joe Milton III, along with a sixth-round pick in the coming 2024 draft.
Milton is now stepping in at QB2, right behind Dak Prescott. Eager to connect with the fan base, he took to social media with a cheerful message to Cowboys supporters, saying, “Shout out Cowboys Nation. It’s Joe Milton, quarterback. I’m happy to be here. Let’s get this ball rolling.”
The excitement from Milton didn’t end there – the Cowboys’ official Twitter account shared his enthusiastic arrival with a post declaring, “Cowboy Joe in the building 🤠,” accompanied by a picture sure to get fans fired up.
Milton’s journey began at the University of Michigan, where he played for three seasons before transferring to Tennessee. By 2023, he had earned his spot as a full-time starter, racking up 2,813 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, not to mention 299 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on his feet.
With the Patriots, Milton was third in line behind Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett. He made waves during the preseason and got his chance to shine in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills, delivering an impressive performance with 241 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown, not to mention a remarkable 75.9% pass completion rate.
For Dallas, the 2024 season was tough, plagued especially by the hamstring injury that sidelined Prescott after just eight games. This offseason, the Cowboys recognize the need to address several gaps in their roster, particularly at running back and for a wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb. Nonetheless, they boast considerable star power and are setting their sights on making a postseason comeback in 2025.
As the team looks forward, their fans are certainly waiting in anticipation, eyes eagerly watching for what comes next. Stay tuned also for updates on Micah Parsons and the ongoing contract negotiations that have been drawing attention throughout the league.
