On Thursday, the Jets announced a significant addition to their wide receiver lineup with the signing of veteran Josh Reynolds.
Reynolds, who is 30 years old, brings with him a wealth of experience and familiarity with the coaching staff. He previously worked with Aaron Glenn, the new Jets head coach, and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand during his stint with the Lions from 2021 to 2023.
Darren Mougey, the Jets’ new general manager, also knows Reynolds from last year when he played five games with the Broncos, a team where Mougey served as the assistant GM.
Throughout his eight-year NFL career, Reynolds has become a journeyman of sorts, playing for a variety of teams including the Rams, Titans, Lions, Broncos, and Jaguars. His career stats include 233 receptions, amassing 3,127 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns.
In the previous season, Reynolds divided his time between the Broncos and Jaguars, recording 13 catches for 194 yards and securing a single touchdown.
The Jets are currently in a situation where they lack seasoned wide receivers. This predicament arose after the organization decided to part ways with Davante Adams during the offseason.
Garrett Wilson, entering his fourth season, stands as the team’s primary receiver. Meanwhile, Xavier Gipson, Tyler Johnson, and Malachi Corley are the other notable figures in the lineup. Although Allen Lazard remains on the roster, there are expectations he might not stick around for the upcoming season.
According to the NFL Network, Reynolds’ deal with the Jets is a one-year contract potentially valued up to $5 million. This follows his release from the Jaguars on March 7.
