Having once graced the UFC cage as a fierce competitor, Jeremy Stephens is all set to make a comeback to the organization after nearly four years on the sidelines.
### Jeremy Stephens’ Journey After Leaving the UFC
When Jeremy Stephens stepped into the Octagon in 2021, many thought it might be his last appearance. Facing off against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC on ESPN 26, Stephens was submitted with a kimura in the first round. This marked his fifth consecutive loss, prompting the UFC not to renew his contract, effectively concluding a tenure that spanned nearly 15 years.
Post-UFC, Stephens explored new horizons by signing with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) in 2022, hailed as the second-largest MMA organization globally. Making his debut at that season’s PFL 1 against the talented Clay Collard, Stephens found himself outclassed and lost via unanimous decision. In the following matches under the PFL banner, he managed to notch a single win against Myles Price, a split decision victory that marked his first success since 2018.
### Diversifying with Boxing and Bare Knuckle Fighting
Taking a detour from the MMA world, Stephens decided to don boxing gloves in 2023, participating in a couple of noteworthy matches. His first boxing endeavor saw him go toe-to-toe with former UFC featherweight legend José Aldo at Gamebred Boxing 4. The bout ended in a majority draw, with Stephens impressively standing his ground against the former seven-time defending champion. Later that year, he participated in the Paul vs. Diaz card but suffered a unanimous decision loss to the unbeaten Chris Avila.
However, Stephens truly found his stride when he signed with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship in late 2023. Over a year with BKFC, he compiled an outstanding 3-0 record, highlighted by two stoppage victories over skilled multi-sport combatants like Jimmie Rivera and Eddie Alvarez.
### Returning to Familiar Grounds: The UFC
Despite being on the cusp of a match in the burgeoning Global Fight League, the surprising turn of events has Stephens returning to the UFC. He is set to re-enter the Octagon on May 3 at UFC Fight Night 256, facing off against promising Welsh talent Mason Jones.
Back in 2021 and 2022, Jones also made waves in the UFC after a remarkable stint in Cage Warriors, where he secured both the lightweight and welterweight titles. His UFC run, however, wasn’t what he had hoped, posting a 1-2-1NC record. But a return to Cage Warriors in 2023 revitalized “The Dragon,” who went on to win four consecutive fights, three by knockout, showcasing his relentless resolve and skills.
