The buzz around the Pittsburgh Steelers’ interest in bringing Aaron Rodgers on board as their quarterback in 2025 has been gaining traction. While Rodgers hasn’t committed to a decision yet, Jay Glazer, a seasoned NFL insider for FOX, seems to think the fit between Rodgers and Pittsburgh looks promising. Glazer weighed in on FOX & Friends this morning, pointing out that aside from the Steelers, teams like the Giants and the Vikings are also in the mix for the four-time MVP. However, he seems to envision Rodgers thriving under the tutelage of Arthur Smith, Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator.
“If I were one of these teams, I’d want Aaron Rodgers channeling some frustration,” Glazer mentioned. “The Steelers are definitely interested, and while the Giants and even the Vikings are hanging around like they did with Brett Favre, Pittsburgh seems ideal. When looking at Rodgers, you can sense he’s got a point to prove, and he’s still got juice in him. Equip him with a coach like Arthur Smith or Kevin O’Connell, and you could really tap into his potential. Personally, I see him fitting in well with the Steelers.”
Arthur Smith has garnered attention for how he managed Pittsburgh’s quarterback landscape last year. Admittedly, things took a downturn with Russell Wilson, but Smith’s collaboration with Rodgers could be different. Just last season, he aided Justin Fields in reaching a streak of his best performances in the NFL, and up until a slump at the end, Wilson seemed poised to record some impressive statistics.
Despite Rodgers not having an outstanding stint with the Jets, marked by a 5-12 record and some offensive hiccups, his talent remains evident. Mobility might be a concern now, and it’s unrealistic to anticipate MVP-caliber performances if he transitions to Pittsburgh. Yet, Rodgers would find solid targets in George Pickens and DK Metcalf. Smith has experience revitalizing quarterbacks, exemplified by his work with Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee and his endeavors in Pittsburgh.
After the rocky end in New York, Rodgers indeed has a chip on his shoulder. However, having the drive to prove critics wrong and successfully doing so are two separate challenges. If Rodgers does land with the Steelers, or anywhere else, the critical question will be whether he still has the capability to steer a team through a deep playoff run.
That potential is what the Steelers are banking on in their pursuit of Rodgers. While this saga might not wrap up quickly, the current atmosphere suggests Pittsburgh could very well be his next destination. Partnering with Smith may very well give their offense the boost it needs, especially with Metcalf now in the mix.
