Seattle, WA — This weekend, Ion Cutelaba, the light heavyweight fighter with a record of 18-10-1, 1NC, is gearing up to step back into the octagon at UFC Seattle. Fresh from a victory over Ivan Erslan last month, he’s ready to face off against Ibo Aslan, bringing some fresh changes to his preparation.
During media day this week, Cutelaba shared how he’s mixing things up in anticipation of the fight. “I’ve got a new coach for this fight,” he said, chatting with various media folks including Cageside Press. “I’ve been building up my experience and getting in plenty of practice. I’m feeling super charged and can’t wait to see what I bring to the table.”
The Moldovan fighter also addressed Aslan’s confidence in handling his famous aggressive style, noting that he’s prepared to take control. “I’ve spent three months getting ready for this face-off. I know his game; he’s a thrilling fighter who loves to apply pressure. But I’m more than ready to counter whatever he throws my way.”
Interestingly, Cutelaba skipped the translator and dabbled in English, hinting that Aslan might be in for a “big surprise” if he thinks he can manage Cutelaba’s intensity.
When asked about the weigh-ins, a time when he’s known to paint himself like The Hulk and get up close to his opponents, Cutelaba kept his thoughts simple. “I’ve been around here a while, and I understand my role perfectly. I give my all every time I’m out there,” he shared.
Reflecting on his time in the UFC, Cutelaba has a firm belief that his experience will play a critical role in Saturday’s bout. “I’m convinced that my experience will dictate 99% of the outcome,” he predicted confidently.
