It’s with a heavy heart that we bring you the devastating news of Carson Jones’ untimely passing at just 38. This former boxing champion, who once dominated the 147 and 154-pound divisions, has sadly left us far too soon following surgery on his esophagus.
The heartbreaking news was shared by Caleb Truax, a close friend and former champion, through social media, as reported by The Ring. Carson had previously informed his fans about his severe gastrointestinal issues and the upcoming procedure he faced. A fighter best remembered for his electrifying bouts with Kell Brook, Carson had openly discussed his struggles with eating and drinking, expressing how the ordeal was taking a toll on him.
Sadly, after bravely enduring the surgery, Carson has departed this world much too young.
Tributes are flooding in from every corner, reflecting the respect and admiration Carson held in the boxing community. They’re heartfelt and deservedly so.
Originating from Oklahoma City, Jones was reminiscent of fighters from a bygone era, frequently competing in England and across the United States. Perhaps one of his most controversial matches was against Antonio Margarito in September 2017 in Mexico, where an unfair call resulted in a technical draw, despite Carson’s clear victory in the ring. It remains a fight worth revisiting if you can find it.
Carson’s career record stands at an impressive 44 wins, 16 losses, and 3 draws, with 32 of those being knockouts. He was only stopped five times throughout his career. Our deepest sympathies go out to Carson’s family and friends as they navigate this difficult and sorrowful time.
