The Cologuard Classic is an exciting evolution of the Tucson Conquistadores Classic, which made its debut back in 2015. Taking place at the picturesque Omni Tucson National Resort, specifically on the Catalina Course, this event has become a highlight in the golfing calendar. Originally crafted by Robert Bruce Harris in 1961, the course has undergone enhancements by notable designers such as Red Lawrence, Robert Von Hagge, Bruce Devlin, and Tom Lehman, ensuring a challenging yet delightful layout for golfers.
This tournament is a unique 54-hole stroke play event with no cut, which keeps the competitive spirit alive from start to finish. Sponsored by Cologuard, known for its non-invasive colorectal cancer screening tests, the event is as much about raising awareness as it is about celebrating sporting excellence.
The Tucson Conquistadores, a dedicated group of local businessmen, have played a pivotal role in organizing the event. Founded in 1961 by the esteemed Roy Drachman, the group is committed to supporting athletes and community sporting events. Their journey began with an annual Sports Award Banquet, and through the years they’ve managed the Tucson Open and the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship at Dove Mountain.
With an active membership of 55 and a broader network of 197, the Conquistadores also operate the Tucson Conquistadores Foundation. Their fundraising efforts primarily support The First Tee of Tucson and Southern Arizona Youth Athletic Programs, contributing significantly to the local community.
In 2022, Miguel Angel Jimenez made headlines by achieving two aces during his three rounds, securing a commanding four-shot victory.
