Okay, that’s fun. Imagine this—there’s this place, Washtenaw Golf Club, where this whole GAM Girls Championship thing is happening again. Second time running, but who’s keeping track? Stroke play, 36 holes over a couple of days. Sound intense? Maybe?
Alena Li and Saisha Patil, both from Okemos (love that place), are set to battle it out. They snagged the Player of the Year deals in 2024. Anyway, they’re both eyeing the title this year. Let’s see who swings it better. Results are floating somewhere online—you can chase ’em down if you’re curious.
Honestly, it’s kinda neat, right? Owners shutting down prime weekend slots so juniors can take a swing—or two—on one of the state’s classic green stretches. Cheers to Dave Kendall, Nick Ma, and Steve Davis for not just thinking about the next tee shot. Growing the game and all that jazz. Fairway to heaven.
And, oh, they’re having a boys’ version on July 29 – 30. Mark your calendars, or not.
The once upon a time mixed-gender GAM Junior Kickoff is out. Used to clash with high school sports schedules. Boys play spring; girls swing in fall here in Michigan. So, GAM flipped things around. Smart move—or maybe just seemed like the only move.
Big props to the Michigan Golf Association. It’s your gig, but hey, it means a lot. Between volunteers, GAM staff, and the crew at Washtenaw, hats off to all of you who made it happen.
And there you have it—something about golf, juniors, and a dusty old course finding new life. How it plays out? It’s anyone’s guess. But isn’t that part of the charm?
My mind wandered back to swinging clubs as a kid. Never got that hole-in-one—must be nice, though. Anyway, back to wherever you were.
