Gervonta “Tank” Davis is living the dream in the boxing world with a stunning record of thirty wins, zero losses, and twenty-eight knockouts. At 30, this Baltimore native is one of boxing’s brightest stars. While he may not yet rival the fame of legends like Mayweather or Pacquiao, Davis has definitely carved out a significant following. This Saturday night, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, he will headline a pay-per-view event against Lamont Roach, an opponent many have already dismissed. Despite Roach’s impressive record of 25 wins and just one loss, along with a single draw, few believe he stands a chance against Davis.
While this upcoming match might not have fans on the edge of their seats with anticipation, Davis’s commitment to fighting three times in 2025 keeps things interesting. Known for his explosive power and fast, skillful style, Davis offers the kind of spectacle fans love. His ability to entertain and deliver in the ring is what makes him so appealing. In many ways, he’s reminiscent of the Mayweather-Pacquiao era when top fighters could attract massive audiences regardless of their opponents, much like Canelo Alvarez today.
Of course, Davis isn’t pulling in the astronomical viewership that Floyd and Manny commanded in their prime, but he’s doing well enough to ensure his fights are always pay-per-view events, packing arenas with eager fans. His knack for thrilling endings, like the electrifying combination that floored Frank Martin last summer, is a major draw.
Davis’s most significant bout so far was his win over Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas two years ago. Their clash garnered enough hype to be considered a superfight, but Garcia couldn’t match Davis’s prowess in the ring. Davis knocked Garcia down in the second round and sealed the deal in the seventh. Now, there’s buzz about Davis facing off against another top-tier opponent, with names like Shakur Stevenson floating around. However, before any more megafights, he must first handle the determined challenge Roach presents. While most expect Davis to secure another win this Saturday, it’s boxing—where surprises are always a possibility.
