In a thrilling display of teamwork and talent, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz clinched the Eisenhower Cup, setting the stage for their anticipated reunion at the US Open in mixed doubles.
Reflecting on their success at the BNP Paribas Open, Fritz expressed his excitement about partnering with Rybakina again at the US Open. “She played fantastically last night,” Fritz shared during a media session in Indian Wells. “She did everything one could hope for in a mixed doubles partner. I approached her with the idea because I needed a partner for the US Open, and luckily, she was interested.”
Rybakina is enthused but is awaiting final confirmation after consulting with her team. Should this partnership materialize, it will be one of the prominent pairings committed to the US Open mixed doubles, joining another notable duo: Stefanos Tsitsipas and his partner, Paula Badosa.
Last August, the Greek-Spanish couple enjoyed a memorable victory during the inaugural US Open Mixed Madness exhibition, which Tsitsipas fondly described as “one of the coolest date nights” ever. Their victory didn’t come easy, as the competition included heavy hitters like Naomi Osaka paired with Nick Kyrgios and Amanda Anisimova teamed up with Taylor Fritz, among others.
In contrast, the previous year saw Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori take the crown at the 2024 US Open Mixed Doubles, defeating Taylor Townsend and Donald Young. This year, however, marks a new chapter with the USTA revamping the 2025 Mixed Doubles format, scheduling the entire event during the qualifying rounds preceding the main draw of the US Open.
Tsitsipas, brimming with anticipation, confirmed his intentions for this year’s tournament alongside Badosa. Speaking candidly, he remarked, “Playing with her is always my first choice for mixed doubles. There’s no one else I’d prefer to team up with on the court.”
As these top players gear up for the tournament, fans are eager to see how these dynamic pairs will perform on the grand stage of the US Open.
