Matthew Able has decided to reopen his recruitment process after initially committing to Miami, according to his announcement on 247Sports. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard from Weston, Florida’s Sagemont School is a highly regarded figure in the 2025 college basketball recruiting class, ranked as the No. 30 prospect. Originally, he committed to the Miami Hurricanes on August 30 and signed on November 13. However, following Jim Larranaga’s retirement, Able is now the second player from Miami’s 2025 class, along with Ben Ahmed, to reconsider their options.
In a conversation with 247Sports, Able expressed his gratitude to Miami and its staff for their recruitment efforts and the opportunities extended to him. “Given the recent changes following Coach Larranaga’s retirement, I’ve decided to explore my options once more,” he explained, nonetheless emphasizing that Miami remains a strong contender as he reevaluates his choices.
While Able is only now making this news public, he was actually granted his release on February 21. Since that time, he has arranged three unofficial visits to various other programs.
Despite reopening his recruitment, Able isn’t fully closing the door on Miami. Once the Hurricanes have finalized their new coaching hire, the Florida native will still consider them among his potential destinations. In the meantime, he is proceeding with scheduling visits to make informed decisions about his future.
