After Dillian Whyte withdrew from his April 5 bout with Joe Joyce due to a hand injury, Filip Hrgovic is stepping in as his replacement. Promoter Frank Warren from Queensberry confirmed this change.
“It’s a challenging fight for both,” Warren remarked to Ring Magazine. “It mirrors the matchup Joe had with Dillian. Whoever wins will advance, while the loser will need to reassess their career path.”
Hrgovic recently faced a setback, sustaining a stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois last June. He’s eager to bounce back into the competitive scene. Similarly, Joyce is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Derek Chisora in July and aims to regain his standing.
Warren further commented that while this match is a big test for Joyce, defeating a reputable opponent is crucial if he wants to build enough momentum for a shot at the world title.
