Feliciano Lopez, a veteran with four Davis Cup victories under his belt, will continue leading the prestigious men’s team tennis competition as the tournament director for its knockout stages through 2027, according to an announcement from the International Tennis Federation on Tuesday.
Lopez, who is now 43, guided the Final 8 event in Malaga for 2023 and 2024, and he is set to return for the next three editions, which are scheduled to take place in Italy.
“I’m truly honored by the ITF’s confidence in me to shape the event’s long-term future,” Lopez, who once ranked as high as 12th in the world, expressed in a statement. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work in Italy over the next three years, starting this November in Bologna.”
He added with enthusiasm, “I’m confident we can build on our achievements in Malaga, and I’m committed to driving the Davis Cup’s continued growth.”
Italy is set to host the 2025 Final 8 from November 18 to 23, hoping to clinch their third consecutive Davis Cup title. They’ll be joined by seven other nations determined to compete, following the second round of qualifying this September.
