As the world goes abuzz with Major League Baseball’s opening week and the thrilling climaxes of March Madness, the UFL has been quietly making waves of its own during its kickoff weekend. Excitement hit a peak when Jarveon Howard shattered the record for the longest run in UFL’s regular season history. Yet, the euphoria was short-lived as former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kalen Ballage outdid him within a day.
Ballage showcased his prowess with an impressive burst through the middle of the defense, dodging tackles with ease and sprinting away for a spectacular 77-yard touchdown. Catch the breathtaking moment in the clip shared by The UFL on X.
Ballage’s professional journey began as a fourth-round selection from Arizona State in the 2018 NFL Draft, picked up by the Miami Dolphins. After two seasons, he was traded to the New York Jets, but a failed physical nullified the trade. Nevertheless, the Jets brought him onboard for a brief stint in the 2020 season. He soon found himself with the Los Angeles Chargers, moving from their practice squad to the active roster, before testing the free-agent waters in 2021.
The Pittsburgh Steelers offered Ballage a spot in 2021, where he participated in all 17 games. During his time there, he logged 12 carries for 36 yards and snagged two receptions for eight yards. While his offensive snaps were limited to 65, he contributed significantly on special teams with 98 snaps.
After staying off the field in 2022, Ballage got an opportunity with the San Antonio Brahmas in 2023. Now, he’s eager for a resurgence with the Arlington Renegades in the UFL.
Standing tall at 6’1″, weighing 228 pounds, and boasting a brisk 4.46-second 40-yard dash, Ballage has the build and speed to be a compelling running back in the NFL. Though he hasn’t secured a long-term spot yet, a breakout season in the UFL might just be the springboard he needs for another NFL opportunity.
