Colorado’s head football coach, Deion Sanders, recently shared his disdain for the T-step, a technique used by cornerbacks, in an NFL Network video featuring Bucky Brooks. He labeled the move as "stupid" and jokingly threatened to yank the facemask off any of his players who employs it.
"Let me show you just how ridiculous the T-step is," Sanders explained to Brooks. His demonstration left a clear impression of his disapproval.

Not everyone is on board with Coach Prime’s critique. Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel chimed in, disagreeing with Sanders and praising the T-step as a valuable skill. Samuel couldn’t resist poking fun at Sanders, tweeting, "I can’t stop laughing at how foolish he sounds. You can’t control everything, sir. The first thing a cornerback is taught: never run out of breaks… so T-Step is the perfect technique."
Deion, never one to shy from a retort, responded to Samuel’s tweet with a touch of humor and confidence. "Sir. Foolish. Lololol God bless you, my brother. Tell them what this is really about, sir. You’ve forever been taking a shot at the sky. Mickey Andrews taught us what I teach, and it certainly worked for us. Peace be still," Sanders tweeted back.
In the world of football, teaching styles can differ, especially among legends. While Samuel may have been a talented cornerback in his own right, Sanders is often touted as an NFL legend in that position. His opinions, therefore, carry significant weight.
Sanders, as the head coach of Colorado, has made remarkable strides over two seasons. When he took the helm, the team had only clinched one win in 2022. In just two years, Sanders turned things around spectacularly, amassing 13 wins, nine of them coming in the most recent season.
As the 2025 season approaches, Sanders is setting sights on hitting the double-digit win mark, aiming to further elevate the Colorado program.
