Maycee Barber is gearing up for a significant milestone in her UFC career with her debut as a headliner.
On Tuesday, the UFC announced that Barber is slated to compete against Erin Blanchfield in the main event of UFC Vegas 106. This event is scheduled for May 31 and will unfold at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Earlier in 2024, Blanchfield had a couple of outings in the octagon. She faced her first setback in the promotion when she was defeated by Manon Fiorot at UFC Atlantic City, marking a tough main event for her less than a year ago. However, “Cold Blooded” bounced back at UFC Edmonton in November, securing a decisive win via unanimous decision over Rose Namajunas, a former multi-time strawweight champion. Blanchfield is ranked No. 4 in the flyweight division according to MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings, boasting an impressive 7-1 record in the UFC.
Barber, on the other hand, is returning to the ring after a 14-month hiatus, and she’s bringing a remarkable six-fight winning streak with her. Her recent victories include a decision win against former title challenger Katlyn Cerminara at UFC 299 and a stoppage of Amanda Ribas at UFC Jacksonville. Barber is positioned as the No. 7 flyweight in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings. She was initially set to headline UFC Denver against Namajunas last July but had to pull out from the fight.
Both fighters are sure to bring their A-game in this much-anticipated main event, promising an exciting night for MMA fans.
