Over the past few seasons, Raducanu has been dealing with a string of fitness issues. Recently, she also had to take a break after facing a scary situation with a stalker during the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February. Despite these challenges, the 2021 US Open winner is gearing up for an intensive training period over the next two to three weeks.
Raducanu has decided to skip the upcoming Rouen Open, which kicks off on April 14, leaving fans uncertain about when she’ll next hit the courts for competitive play. Meanwhile, Great Britain is gearing up to take on the Netherlands and Germany in a fresh, round-robin style format for the BJK Cup between April 10 and 12.
Last year, Raducanu was an integral part of the British team that made it to the BJK Cup semi-finals. However, her absence this year has British captain Anne Keothavong considering her options. It’s likely that by next week, another player will join the ranks alongside Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Harriet Dart, and Olivia Nicholls.
Keothavong expressed mixed feelings, saying, “Of course you always miss a player of her quality on the team. But I have the utmost belief in the players who are traveling.” The top team from these qualifying matches in The Hague will secure a spot in the Finals later in the year, while the remaining two teams face play-offs for a chance to re-enter the qualifiers in 2026.
On the same day, world number two Iga Swiatek announced her withdrawal from Poland’s qualifying matches against Switzerland and Ukraine. Citing a “difficult decision,” Swiatek shared that she’ll be focusing on personal growth and training during this time.
