We all know it’s a given—Carmelo Anthony is destined to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and deservedly so.
Joining him in this prestigious recognition is Dwight Howard. Although the official word won’t be out until the weekend, Shams Charania from ESPN broke the news we all anticipated. Howard himself pretty much confirmed it over on X.
In a tweet that gives you all the feels, Howard expressed his wishes by saying, “I want KG , Shaq, and Kareem to walk me out 🙏🏾 #hof,” on April 5, 2025.
For those who’ve only followed Howard during his time with the Lakers and beyond, you might not fully appreciate the force he was on the court for over a decade. In his prime, Howard was probably the top defender of his era, boasting three Defensive Player of the Year awards, earning a spot eight times on the All-NBA team, and being an eight-time All-Star. Let’s not forget his contribution to the Lakers’ championship in the NBA bubble.
Both Howard and Anthony are shoo-ins for the Hall of Fame. Sue Bird is another formidable figure who’s eligible and should undoubtedly secure her spot. The lineup of other potential inductees is equally illustrious, featuring Maya Moore, the 2008 USA Basketball men’s Olympic team with Anthony and Howard, as well as Marques Johnson, coaches Billy Donovan and Mark Few, and Miami Heat owner Micky Arison. This weekend promises a celebration of basketball greatness.
