The Miami Dolphins had a tough season, missing out on the playoffs. To bounce back as strong contenders, they need to make strategic offseason moves.
One big question lurking around is the future of their star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill. But more pressingly, the team needs to bolster its defense, especially filling the gap at cornerback across from Jalen Ramsey.
In an effort to address this, they took to their X account (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday to share some news. The Dolphins announced they’ve snagged Ryan Cooper Jr., recently with the Seattle Seahawks, off waivers.
Ryan Cooper Jr., affectionately nicknamed “Bump,” had a notable college career at Oregon State in 2022 and 2023. During that time, he tallied 18 passes defended, five tackles for loss, four interceptions, and 82 total tackles, including 52 solo.
Despite his accomplishments, Cooper went undrafted and was picked up as a free agent by the Baltimore Ravens last summer. After a brief stint with them and being released in late August, he found his way back onto their practice squad. He made a special teams appearance in their Week 8 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
The Dolphins, who ranked 10th in points allowed and 4th in total yards given up in 2024, still have some defensive gaps that need attention. While Ramsey, who is now 30, remains a strong presence on the field, pairing him with another capable cornerback could be crucial for Miami’s push to re-enter the playoffs.
Although they reached the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023, the Dolphins have yet to taste playoff victory since the 2000 season. Their fans are eagerly hoping for a change in fortunes and a deeper postseason run.
Meanwhile, stay tuned to catch Tyreek Hill flaunting his new look!
